You must know, Morocco is the country I am most excited to serve in! I have been researching Morocco for years in hope of teaching there one day, and ya know, riding a camel across the Sahara. But the more I look into this country and their culture, I am blown away by their traditions, and I have always been fascinated with Islam and learning more about it, the branches and how to better understand it beyond what the media tells us. This month I am excited to have conversations with Muslims and grasp a better grip on how to share the Gospel with those who have an Islamic background.

Map:

Flag: The red color in the flag symbolizes strength, bravery, valor, and hardiness. Green represents for hope, peace, love, wisdom, joy, and is also the color of Islam. The five-pointed star represents the five pillars of Islam.

Language: Arabic (80–90%); Berber (25–30%)

Religion: 99% of Moroccan’s are reported to be Muslim (Mostly Sunni)

Population: 35.74 million people

Unique Animals: Because Morocco has 40 different ecosystems throughout the country, it is home to many different animal species.  Some unique ones include:

The Fennec Fox- one of the smallest breeds of foxes, weighing only 1.5-3.5 lbs and measuring only 9-16 inches long.

Special Foods: Couscous is originally from Morocco.  Some of the more interesting foods found in Morocco include: steamed sheep head, snail soup, and stuffed camel spleen.

Cool Geography: Morocco has coastal areas located on the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.  It is also mountainous throughout Central Morocco (the Atlas Mountains) and the Sahara Desert can be found in Southern Morocco.

Bucket List Items in Morocco:

  • Take a camel safari through the Sahara Desert!

  • Visit the blue city, Chefchaouen

Prayer:  Lord, I pray for our time in Morocco.  I pray for the people who live there and the government over them.  God, I pray that you would open doors and provide opportunities for our team to minister to those we come in contact with in Morocco.  I pray for safety and for health and for spiritual and emotional wellness during this month of our journey. I pray that you would be preparing the way for us in Morocco and laying down the foundation ahead of us as we go.  I have high hopes for this month and great expectations for all that you will do during it.

If you have been to Morocco, PLEASE share your experiences! I know SAU just took a cross cultural there and I am so bummed because it looked amazing!

This is also the month in which my team and I need to be fully funded. Fundraising has been such a humbling journey. I never thought I would be able to raise $19,200, and yet God has completely blown me away. As of May 17, 2019 I only have $1,000 left to raise for this journey. I know many of my teammates are not as close to the final goal. So please join me in praying for them that the Lord would place it on people’s hearts to partner with them and the Kingdom work that God’s got going on around the world!!
